How’s Your Photography Business? Want More Clients Now?

I was just finishing up next month’s “Renegade Photographer Inner Circle” Newsletter that most of you already are members of, and thinking about the Portrait & Wedding Photography Business, and what ideas or suggestions I might be able to offer to those photographers who follow this blog…

And as I was finishing it up, I came across a great quotation, (which I added to the newsletter) from Charles Darwin – “It is not the stongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.”

Wow, what powerful words – so I wanted to share them with all of you.  So let me ask you:  How’s your photography business?  Do you want more clients now?  If so, what are you doing that is PROVEN to get new, highly qualified clients fast?  And how are you dealing with all the changes which are taking place in the photo industry and the economy at the moment?

Because how you deal with the changes and how you respond to them, will determine how successful you are with your photography business.

A few ideas:

1.  Put together a simple “Referral Program” for your clients – and tell them about it in your monthly newsletters you send to all your “current clients.”  (You DO send out a simple, monthly newsletter to them, don’t you?!)  Remember, they are your BEST source of new, highly qualified business – both with hiring you to do more images for them, as well as sending you new clients you have not worked with before.

2.  From this day forward, never, ever do any marketing or advertising without including and many times even FEATURING testimonials from some of your best clients you have worked with in the past.  This is the best photography marketing you can ever do.

3.  Don’t try to be all things to all people.  And don’t try to be a large fish in a large pond – it’s just too hard and too expensive.  The best photogrpahy marketing tip I can give you in these changing times is to work hard on becoming a large fish in a small, but lucrative pond.  Forget about getting to “everybody.”  Just pick your “target market” carefully, and put all your time, money and efforts into building a relationship with them.

Remember, how you deal with the changes taking place right now will determine your photography success.  Photography is a wonderful business, and you can earn a HUGE amount of money with it – yes – right now – especially from Portrait and Wedding Photography – if you just do the right things – the proven things – over and over again to your “Target Market.”

All the best,

Charles Lewis, M. Photog., Cr.
