A Major Key To Having The Photography Business Of Your Dreams

Building & maintaining the photography business of your dreams is a challenge – for sure.  Some days, things will be going very well.  Others, you’ll come up against challenges.   How will you deal with those days?

One of my favorite sayings is this:  It’s not what happens to you that matters, it’s how you respond.”  I first heard this from the late, great Zig Ziglar many years ago, and it has impacted my life since then on.

So I ask you, how do you respond when something doesn’t work the way you’d like it to – or when things aren’t going as well as you’d like them to?  Do you immediately get negative, angry, frustrated and upset? Does it effect the way the rest of your day or week goes? Does your voice get all “down” and do you lose your enthusiasm when speaking with others?

Now, you may be saying to yourself, as you read this, “What does this have to do with being successful in photography, or anything else for that matter?”  Well, I understand how you could be thinking that, but I assure you, based on over 40 years of owning & running my own photography business, how you respond to what happens to you and those around you, and your business,  is a HUGE factor in how successful and happy you are and will become.

Everyone has difficulties. Everyone goes through struggle & challenges that affect their life & business. In reality, I believe that when this happens, we are being tested.  Tested to see if we have the resolve  and persistence to continue on, and drive to achieve our objectives?

Life is full of challenges & struggles. It’s inevitable you will have difficulties – everybody does. So it’s really important that you respond to them in the most effective way.

Here are 3 ways to help you keep the focus & the faith in yourself, so you overcome the obstacles, tests & challenges you will meet along your journey toward your success:

 1. Keep a journal – it’s way more important than you might think.

Almost all truly successful people keep a Journal, where they write down their ideas, goals, dreams, lessons learned, challenges they’re facing, etc.  And they go to their Journal every day. They not only write their thoughts in it, but they also read & review items they have written in it previously.

2. Have very specific goals, in writing (in your journal) with deadlines.

Written goals are the backbone to your daily motivation, attitude and performance.  If you listen to successful people, almost every one of them mentions how important having specific written goals are to their daily life & growth.

 3. Offer yourself a reward for accomplishing a specific goal.

Set up neat rewards or bonuses for your completing your goals on time! It’s a fun game to play, and it will help you stay focused on your most important goals & objectives, even when you are met with challenges or difficulties.  It doesn’t have to be a HUGE reward – just set the goal & the deadline, and then choose a reward you will give yourself when it’s completed on time. It could be a nice dinner out with your best friend, or a new “toy” you have been wanting, etc.  This makes working toward that goal much more interesting & exciting.

The fact is that Life is full of challenges, struggles and situations which require you to respond positively and take ACTION if you want to reach your full potential & success in your life. Use the above three points to help you keep the focus and the faith in yourself and your dreams.

Thanks for that. I have a few wedding albums that I’m way behind with and I’m plodding on through them, working on the images and designing the albums. These are from last year , so it’s hard not to get bogged down. I try to set myself deadlines, but I keep getting sidetracked, working from home. I’ve been getting lots of good tips from the inner circle membership but I’ve been watching videos and seminars instead of doing my work!! we’ve got a long way to go and I know exactly where we’re going wrong, but old habits die hard and it’s knowing where to start to fix things. I think the idea of keeping a journal is good – i used to keep a diary, so will get onto that. Night, Michele xx

      Hi Michele (& Garry),

Yes, these pointers should help with that! Just keep always in mind what your specific goals are, and do “PTS Time” every morning, & you’ll be on the right track!
      All the best!
      Chuck
